Avoid Setting Yourself Up For Failure

How can you avoid setting yourself up to fail when starting your new health and fitness plan???

The early stages of anything will feel like agitation, stress and confusion, because that is your body's natural norepinephrine and adrenaline system kicking in.

Nobody expects to walk into the gym and do a personal best lift without warming up. And your brain also needs to warm up.

We need to accept a period of agitation and stress when dropping into a highly concentrated state. When the new plan feels stressful and hard and the norepinephrine kicks in, we feel like quitting.

However, to help ourselves avoid quitting, we need to focus on the plan, focus on the goal and help ourselves to feel happiness and low levels of excitement, in order to create dopamine, which will reduce the norepinephrine in the short term and allow us to carry on.

We all have this obsession with the idea that everything should feel good! However, learn to accept there is a certain amount of stress you need to move through before you reach that stage. Inject some dopamine by forcing yourself to feel happiness and excitement about part of the process and you will create a 'success circuit;.

THE SUCCESS CIRCUIT

  1. GOAL (for example, lose 1 stone)

  2. RESOURCE (for example, I have signed up to the gym and got a PT)

  3. PLAN / STRATEGY (food and training plan)

  4. WORK (put plan into action with intention)

  5. SUPPORT & HELP (from your resource)

  6. 'SMALL WINS' TO COMBAT NOREPINEPHRINE (celebrate and feel good with each KG dropped/ good session in the gym)

  7. DOPAMINE TO KEEP YOU GOING = SUCCESS!!!!!

The circuits that Mother Nature created work for any endeavour!!

Fall In love With The Process! Take Baby Steps and Feel Good Along The Way! recognise the stress as the early point to where you want to go! Reward yourself at any milestone and view it as partial wins!

WHY DO WE QUIT? norepinephrine ...

HOW DO WE NOT QUIT? dopamine.....

Manage your motor-neurones and reward yourself to give yourself more energy!!!
